86-year old man shoots sick wife dead because he couldn't afford medicines to ease her pain.

An 86-year old Florida man said he killed his wife because she was in pain and he couldn’t afford medicine.

William Hager, in Port St. Lucie, told police that he shot his wife Carolyn in the head with a Colt .32 revolver as she slept, according to an arrest affidavit.

The officer who arrived at the home to hear Hager’s “bad news” said the husband apologized for letting his daughters know before calling 911.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that Carolyn Hager, 78, had been sick with multiple illnesses for years.

Hager told police that his wife had previously told him she wanted to die, but never asked him to end her life.
