Salary deduction: Workers give Fayose 24 hours to pay

Organized labour in Ekiti State has given Governor Ayodele Fayose 24 hours ultimatum to pay workers’ salary deductions for the month of December, 2015 or face industrial action.

This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen yesterday, jointly signed by the Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Ade Adesanmi, Trade Union Congress, Comrade Odunayo Adesoye and Secretary of Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Oladele Blessing.

In a swift reaction, the governor through his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi expressed surprise at the development, saying; ‘’Labour is fully aware of the present state of finance in the state.’’

The trade unions expressed regret over the delay in the payment of deductions despite the agreement reached with the government at the stakeholders’ meeting of May 9, 2016.

The workers, according to the statement took the decision at its meeting of May 16, 2016 held in Ado Ekiti.

The statement said: “It must be noted that the state government has collected state allocation for December, 2015, January, February and March, 2016 with internally generated revenue inclusive and yet government is shirking its responsibility on payment of workers’ monthly salary, which is far from our expectation from a worker friendly governor.

“In view of this, we are constrained to request for the payment of the 2015 December workers’ deduction within 24 hours, so as to avoid industrial unrest in Ekiti”, it concluded.
