A perimeter fence belonging to a petrol station along Murtala Muhammed Way in Benin, Edo State, has killed a construction worker after it collapsed on him and four others.
The victim identified as Moses Okhakhon and four others annexed to a private construction firm were verbally expressed to be working on a drainage when the incident occurred on Thursday.
It was learnt that the drainage was being constructed as a link between Second East Circular road and Third East Circular road.
However, the incident has halted perpetual construction of the Second East Circular road.
According to eyewitnesses, it surmounted 30 minutes to dig out the remains of the victim from the rubble.
But the four survivors, it was amassed, eluded death by the whisker, as they were not plenarily covered by mud when the fence caved in.
One of the eyewitnesses, who identified himself as Friday Omosheri, verbally expressed that the workers had descried an admonishment sign that the collapse would occur.
He additionally verbalized that the workers were trepidacious of working on the drainage under the fence, but were injuctively authorized back to work by one of the site engineers.
He verbalized, “The workers were working on the site when the fence came down.
They visually perceived some signs and they verbally expressed the fence would fall.
“The other engineer verbally expressed those who did not optate to work should peregrinate home. Others were rescued and rushed to the hospital but Moses could not be rescued. They probed for him for more than 30 minutes.”
The brother of the victim, identified as Francis, described the death of his brother as shocking.
He verbalized, “I was shocked to receive the news of my brother’s death. I never expected that he would die under a trap.
“I drove here after I aurally perceived about it.
I will go and visually perceive him in the mortuary. How can they send somebody to work under a trap? We are only two surviving siblings and now I am the only person remaining now.”
